2012 NAIAS Preview

December 29th, 2011 No comments

Christmas day has past. The kids’ stockings have long been emptied and stowed. We are now a mere 10 days from the opening of the 2012 North American International Auto Show. So before we make our annual pilgrimage to the auto show in the D we figured we better get our wits about us (our Executive Editor may have been hitting the egg nog heavy) and sort the rumors from the fact about what we’ll be seeing in Detroit. Chasing a Dream

It is 3:24 in the morning and I am sitting bolt upright in my bed, awake a whole six minutes before my alarm starts blaring. There is a 2011 Mini Cooper S Countryman All4 parked in the driveway gassed up and washed with clothing and gear for four days. The reason? A Roadtrip! The culmination of a great story, not just the beginning of one. Read more…

Video Review: 2011 Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic Wagon

True station wagons are a rare bird in the United States automotive landscape. Americans want their wagons high-riding so they don’t feel like they’re driving their grandparents Ford Country Squire to work. Our European brothers, however, embrace the wagon because of its low riding sedan characteristics and added utility. Watch as Editor Muxlow defends the honor of the station wagon to the land of the red, white and blue.  Read more…

2011 Toyota Prius

A Means of Transportation

When the first generation Prius came along I kind of wrinkled my nose at it and said, well, that is all well and good, a clever science experiment, but it will never take on. Then the second generation Prius came along and my sentiments really hadn’t changed all that much, that’s all well and good, impressive science experiment, but it will never take on. But I ended up eating my words on that one. Toyota has sold over 2 million of the smug little things worldwide and is on to a third generation Prius, the one we are driving today. And I still don’t get it. Read more…

2012 Toyota Prius v

Meet the Newest Member of the Prius Family

I met the newest member of the Prius family today. And I did so a mere five miles from where I welcomed a little bundle of joy to my family 15 months ago in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Fitting, then, that this should be the family-oriented relative of the Green Movement’s poster child. Fortunately for me, the v was all cleaned up and ready to drive without a dirty diaper in sight. Video Review: 2011 Toyota Prius

May 17th, 2011 No comments

It is a bitter cold spring day in Michigan, perfect I guess for taking a 2011 Toyota Prius out for a spin. While I’m fascinated by what the Prius is capable of I question the cost in terms of driving appeal. Click above to have a look. Read more…

2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI

 Diesel Power and 28-MPG

Much the same as many ground breakers, the first generation Volkswagen Touareg sought to set the world on fire with its 5.0-liter 310hp and 553 lb-ft of torque V10 turbodiesel. But it didn’t. The price of entry was too high, $64,565, and then of course there is the fact that most American’s don’t like diesels, unless it’s under the hood of a Golf or Jetta. No matter, because Volkswagen is trying again. Read more…
