It looked as though Mother Nature was about to give us the shaft. The 2011 Thumb Area Soybean Festival started with a “bang” of thunder at 7:30 in the morning. But before our spirits could get too soden, the downpour ceased, the clouds cleared, and we had another beautiful day in Brown City, Mi drooling at all the classic metal (even a Travco Motor home) rolling through town. If you travelled to downtown Flint for the Back to the Bricks car show you were far from the only one, as Design Editor Gernand found out. Record numbers of spectators and rolling pieces of art (cars) flocked to brick-paved Saginaw Street for the show. Gernand even managed to pull himself away from the all-Buick street long enough to take a tour of the newly renovated Billy Durant Hotel where they had a few vehicles from four of the seven divisions of Durant Motors parked out front.
