It’s not often that our busy schedules align to allow all three editors to get together in one spot, but the 2011 Detroit Auto Show is an event we don’t miss. Which is why your humble commentators are holed up high above Detroit surrounded by half a Best Buy’s worth of electronics and burning through a small country’s allotment of bandwidth in anticipation of the deluge of auto news coming out of the Motor City over the next few days. We cleared a few minutes from our schedule to talk about what we’re anticipating most from tomorrow’s show and to go on record with who we think will walk away with North American Car and Truck of the Year honors. It’s all after the jump.

Better grab a hot chocolate and your favorite Snuggie for this one! Not only is it darn cold and chilly in the Motor City, but in this paticular episode of the Automotive Trends PODCAST your humble editors got a bit long winded! Design Editor Gernand gives us a quick history on the Chrysler K-Car before we launch into our pre-auto show discussion. We debate what vehicles will make the finalist round for North American Car and Truck of the Year awards, then deliver a little bit of commentary on the BMW 1-Series M Coupe, Chevrolet’s newest small car name, Buick’s latest endeavor to deliver small car fuel mileage in the fullsize LaCrosse and we also mentioned the Ford Explorer and Volkswagen Golf R. To top it all off we discussed all four of the vehicles we’ve had in the fleet since we last sat behind the mics. Click through to have a listen and check out the impressive photo galleries. Twelve makes a dozen, and while we aren’t serving up a box of donuts here, your favorite trio of trouble are back behind the mics to discuss the very latest in autodom. Can your car run on E15 without a hiccup? Will the Chrysler 200 be little more than last year’s Sebring with new headlights? Just how much did Hyundai price its potent turbocharged Sonata for? Where did we leave the key to the Nissan Versa? The answers to these questions and more are just two clicks away! Read more…
In Episode 11 we try to focus our admittedly short attention spans on the exciting new 2011 models coming from Chrysler plus all the news leaking out ahead of this year’s Paris Auto Show, but along the way we somehow managed to pick up a few trivial topics to keep things unpredictable. Or our ADHD flared up and we’re simply trying to convince you everything discussed during our podcasts is intentional. Either way, did you know Chrysler has marketed three unibody pickups over the years? Well you will learn that and much more if you can focus your attention on the 55 minutes and 4 seconds of auto-related conversation that is available after the jump. Read more…
If you’re scouring the Internet for a classy podcast that will simultaneously educate and enlighten Google has definitely dropped the ball on you. However, if you’re content with eavesdropping on three car guys chatting about Everything Automotive then you’re in luck. Come to think of it, maybe Google didn’t steer you wrong after all, because we can’t think of a better way to pass an hour and 13 minutes. Read more…
The debate was lively and the conversation broad as this week’s topics ranged from Viper-powered pickups to tooth loss. Yes, it takes a certain skill set to weave such diverse comments together, but with nine episodes under our belts we’re starting to fancy ourselves professionals. Fair warning: you’ll have to set aside more than the usual hour to make it through Episode 9 of the podcast as your caffeine-fueled editors rambled on long after the hourglass ran dry. But trust us, this one is worth it. Read more…
Your humble hosts may never change but our beloved industry evolves at an astonishing pace, so we’re back this week to inform and entertain with the latest about Ford’s 2011 Explorer, Audi’s chic A7 and Editor Gernand’s love of the Meadowbrook Concours. Of course, we also run down the good and bad about what we’ve been driving lately and find time to make fun of Editor Muxlow, making Episode 8 a gem of a podcast. But don’t take our word for it. Click through to eavesdrop on more than an hour of boys talking about cars. Read more…
The crew had plenty to talk about this week, at least until technical difficulties shut down the whole operation in the middle of our recording session. No matter, equipment was replaced, settings were tweaked and at least two out of three editors regrouped a few days later to put the finishing touches on our latest round of brilliant banter. It’s been a few weeks since the gang last chimed in but we’ve got plenty to say in Episode 6 as we chat about video games, minivans, cars that grow with every revision and why 510hp can make a leather-lined luxury tank seem worth its $100k asking price. Senior Editor Muxlow may have spent much of the podcast with farm machinery on the brain–we think his recent lawn mower purchase is to blame–but at the end of the 54 minutes cars still ruled the day. So click through and never fear: we’ll get Muxlow back on his meds and return next week with even more useless banter. Read more…
